It's tempting to jump on the fasting bandwagon...seems like everyone's doing it. While fasting can be a tempting way to take off a few stubborn pounds, it almost never results in long term weight loss and health.
However, there are benefits to be gained from fasting.
1. Fasting increases your self-discipline.
2. Fasting helps you focus.
3. Fasting will increase your confidence that you can make lifestyle changes.
How, you ask, does fasting help in those three areas? I'll tell you the main reason why--Fasting is inherently TEMPORARY.
Because we know it's temporary, it's easier to follow than that nebulous 'lifestyle change.' But you can gain the benefits of fasting without some of the harmful effects that can come from traditional fasting such as fatigue, lethargy, illness, weakness, and rebound weight gain. You can gain the benefits by changing what your 'fast' consists of.
I propose that you go on a fast of:
-white flours and sugars
-Processed or GMO foods
Fast on all six, or pick just one or two, but go ahead and indulge your fancy to go on a health fast. In conjunction with your fast, increase your water intake. Start with just one day or even one meal. Do what you can. Or challenge yourself to three days, a week, or even a month. Let us know how you did in the comments below!
