Margaret Laorenza is a Personal Trainer specializing in Core Resistance Training, Beginner Weight Training, and Flexibility Training for women ages 35-65

It’s funny how we show signs leaning toward our career paths early in life. In my case, I was 21 years old, never having exercised regularly before, and one of my friends referred me ‘pleasantly plump’ to one of his friends. It came back to me, and I immediately decided to do something about it. I have been exercising ever since then, and the person who called me ‘plump’ fell in love with me and we have been married 25 yrs! I continued to learn as much as I could about exercise, helping my friends and family do the same. I guess it just came naturally to me and I loved it. Becoming a Personal Trainer has been the best way to promote and share what I know about exercise, and how it can improve your life.
Most of my work as a trainer has been specifically with pre- and post-menopausal women. These folks have sought out a personal trainer because of what they describe as a “thickening” of the middle of their bodies. For the most part they have not been exercising regularly, and want a program that fits their busy schedules of work and family. My focus is on getting their abs and back muscles strong in balance with each other, and in many cases, my program relieves them of any back pain they had been experiencing. I use many of the stretches and exercises from Pilates and Yoga to help them to achieve their new improved figure, but I incorporate resistance training as well.
There is nothing more rewarding than my client’s reaction to how great they feel after the workout session, and knowing that I am helping them to get one step closer to reaching their goal.
When it comes to diet and exercise, my philosophy is pretty simple. As human beings, our bodies are not meant to be sedentary, nor are they designed to digest processed and fast foods. I continue to stress to my clients the very basic life necessity of having at least 30 to 45 minutes of moderate activity every day of the week, and to try to make healthy food choices. I always have a tip to give my client, or a story to tell them about relating to diet and exercise, in hopes it will motivate them to follow this strategy. When necessary, we will use tools such as food diaries and cardio logs to assist with incorporating these principles into daily life.
Since each client is unique, each workout session is designed specifically for their fitness level, and what they prefer to do. I try to make it as enjoyable as possible, but stress the need to have a balanced workout that includes flexibility exercises, and a plan for their cardio workouts. I discuss a plan for weight management as well. Also, everyone wants to know how long it will take to reach a goal, so I spend time on this so that they take the big goal and break it into smaller, more easily attainable ones.
For those who are looking for a trainer who has life experiences in fitness, who can relate to many of the issues we have in mid-life and beyond, I can offer motivation, support, and unique and challenging workouts.
