High Protein Fun and Different Snack Ideas
It's easy to get sick of hard boiled eggs, protein shakes, and other old standbys for protein snacks. Here are some fun and different high protein snack ideas.
Fruit yogurt parfait
½ cup low fat cottage cheese, ½ cup high fiber cereal such as all bran, ½ cup berries, packet sweetener. Mix and enjoy.
Toasted cheesy muffin
1 whole grain English muffin, sliced. Top each with 1 slice low fat cheese and one tomato slice. Broil for 1 minute.
1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder plus 1/2 cup water and ¼ cup ice. Blend 20 seconds, then add an additional 1 scoop powder, ¼ cup water and 1/2 cup ice. This blending technique will allow you to make a very thick shake that comes out more like ice cream or a thick milkshake than a beverage. Add fruit or additional sweetener if desired during blending. Top with 1 regular ice cream cone (20 calorie types). Eat with a spoon.
Something fishy power dip
1 foil packet tuna, ¼ cup low fat mayo, ½ cup finely chopped cucumber and 2 Tbsp capers. Mix and serve with veggies or whole grain crackers.
Fruity cottage cheese parfait
½ cup low fat cottage cheese, ½ cup high fiber cereal such as all bran, ½ cup mandarin orange slices, packet sweetener. Mix and enjoy.
Tofu sweet bites
1 tub low fat firm tofu. Mix sweetener and vanilla extract (2 tsp of each) and sprinkle on top. Another option is sweetener and cinnamon. Slice tofu and eat with a fork.
*For sweetener we like xylitol, stevia, or erythritol. All are natural products and virtually calorie free.
