Not only can excessive food additives make you feel sick, tired, or generally unwell, but some believe that they have an implication for potentially fatal diseases--and they can also slow weight loss or increase water weight and bloating.

Personally, I try to avoid foods that contain these additives in my regular diet, although if I have them once in awhile, I don't worry too much about it. Your liver is capable of flushing out a small amount of potentially toxic additives, but if you overload your system with too many of them, you are much more likely to have problems.
