With the New Year, many people are going to begin exercising or return to working out regularly. Some will step up their routines and push their body to the max. With all this new activity, it is important that you know how to help your body recover from workouts.

Rest and recovery deserve just as much consideration as your workouts if you’re serious about getting in shape, particularly when your program includes weight lifting and other types of resistance training. If you don't allow for proper recovery, working out may actually make you gain fat and lose muscle! Click here to learn what you need to know about recovering from your workouts.

*Is Your Workplace a Hazard For Your Diet?*

It can be easy to overeat at work. Your colleagues bring in treats every day because it's always someone's birthday or leaving party. There's a culture that people eat muffins or doughnuts every Friday or even every day. The staff restaurant is full of fried food or mayonnaise laden salads and the nearest place outside work serves nothing but fast food. Here are 8 tips to immunise yourself against unwanted workplace calories.

*Cholestorol, Blood Pressure or Fitness--Which is More Important?*

"I know firsthand the impact that being out of shape can have on a person’s self-esteem," says Rhonda Grigas, Certified Personal Trainer. "I have a large body frame, and after gradually gaining weight throughout my 20s and having a child at the age of 30, I weighed over 200 pounds. I started going to the gym and was fortunate enough to find a personal trainer who helped me develop an effective and reasonable fitness program. Within one year, a combination of weight lifting, cardiovascular exercise and changes in my eating habits helped me lose 40 pounds. And the best part is that I have maintained this weight and fitness level for the last 10 years." Click here to learn why Rhonda quit her job after she lost the weight.

Janet Butera began her home workout program with Gina in August 2005. Since then she has trained with Gina three times per week, every single week. She wasn’t always one to work out at home, though...

"In the past I belonged to Vincent Spa in Waltham They offered aerobics, weight lifting, and cardio machines, but they didn’t have trainers available for one-on-one attention. I didn’t mind going to the club because my work wasn’t so demanding and I was single then. Now, things are different in my life. Click here to read about how one local woman kicked all of her vices!

Quick Tip:

Sit down on Sunday night and plan out when you will fit in your workouts for the following week. Even create a "makeup" day in case something comes up that causes you to miss a session. If you DO make all your sessions, reward yourself by resting or doing something fun on that day!

News Flash:

Most Effective Cardio May Not Be What You Think

The effectiveness of a cardio workout is largely dependent on the distance traveled and the intensity of the effort. Therefore, the longer you perform cardio and the harder you work, generally the better results you get.

I recommend finding the cardio activity or activities you enjoy the most, and performing them for the majority of your cardio exercise. You’re much more likely to work harder and longer, and will also enjoy your exercise time more so that you’ll be more likely to stick with it.

If you find yourself reaching a plateau, you may need to start mixing up your activity more. If not, keep it up and enjoy!

*Don't Be One of Them!*

The average American gains 1-5 pounds over the Holiday Season. Big deal, right? They will surely lose it over the next few months...or so you think.

The reality is that the average American gains 1-5 pounds every year, which can be directly traced back to the Holiday pounds. It appears that pounds put on over the Holidays never permanently go away for most people.

Home Bodies is offering three different habit-changer and accountibility programs at special New Years' pricing. Not only will you shed those Holiday pounds and then some, but you'll also form new habits that will continue to work for you year-round. Wouldn't it be nice to be at your goal weight and maintain it next Holiday Season?
